AATD and the FAA

Advisory Circular AC 61-136B states the FAA’s position on the use of an AATD for training, checking and currency. FARs: 61.51 logging; 61.57 currency; 61.65 instrument rating, provides additional specifics.

Primary Flight Training – The FAA suggests use of the AATD for primary flight training beyond instrument training. The training industry is seeing proficient pilots with less aircraft time than usual because the sim is an excellent place to learn and reliably keep the lessons and momentum going.

Instrument Rating – In appendix D of AC 61-136B the FAA details a curriculum which together with the LOA and the ability to set IMC conditions helps to meet the 61.65 requirements. 20 hours in the AATD can be used to meet the required 40 hours of instrument time.

Instrument Proficiency Check (61.57), our LOA allows for all of the IPC to be completed in the sim except a circle from an approach and the subsequent landing.

A Commercial Pilot student can use this sim to meet 50 hours of aeronautical experience.

Primary and Instrument students can use the G.I.F.T. program to complete flight training sooner and save money. It can be used 24/7/365 – no training delays.
